Dr Yajna Balgobind

Provisional Psychologist

 

Yajna is a warm and friendly Provisional Psychologist who has a collaborative approach to therapy. She is passionate about delivering tailored therapy specific to her clients’ needs, which may involve identifying and treating the root cause. She therefore combines elements from multiple therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Schema Therapy. She has experience treating adjustment disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, stress, self-esteem, motivation issues, and relationship issues.

Yajna has a specific interest in cultural influences on mental health. Being a first generation Australian of South-Asian decent she decided to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in South Africa to discover her roots. Thus, she aims to provide culturally sensitive therapy, with a specific interest in the challenges of first-generation Australians.

Prior to her psychology studies Yajna’s was a Dental Practitioner in Public Health, hence her medical knowledge is advantageous for understanding how medical conditions and their treatments interact with mental health.

Yajna’s education includes a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BCHD); a Graduate Diploma in Psychology (GradDipPsych) and a Master of Professional Psychology (MProfPsych) both completed at The University of Melbourne. She is also a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists (AAPi).
