Psychological and Educational Assessments

What matters most is what you do today, we pride ourselves in helping you develop the insight you need to make today count and live the life you most deserve.

Psychologists are often associated with providing specialist treatment services, however they are also highly trained in conducting assessments. Most assessments typically involve a clinical interview with the client, as well as the administering of psychological tests. The psychologist may also interview the client’s family and other relevant parties to obtain additional and collateral information to assist the assessment process.

An assessment report is then written based on the information gathered by the psychologist during the clinical interview, the results of psychological tests administered, and the psychologist’s clinical judgement and expertise.

We offer the following psychological and educational assessments:

  • A comprehensive process conducted only by our most experienced psychologists. They will guide you through each of the steps and are happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have along the way. Our tailored-approach is designed to reduce unnecessary costs. For testing sessions, clients are required to attend in person (when possible).

The structure of the ADHD assessments:

Session 1 (90-min): Initial clinical interview

    Session 2 (90-min): Assessment

Session 3 (60-90-min): Feedback, Discussion, Referrals and Report given

*as each assessment is tailored to the individual, a fourth session may be required

  • An ADHD assessment can provide clarity and valuable insights for individuals or families facing challenges related to attention and impulsivity.

During the assessment the psychologist aims to explore a child’s behaviour, developmental history, and mental health over 3-5 sessions that include clinical interviews and the completion of rating scales by parents, teachers, and/or the child depending on their age.

Here are some reasons to consider an assessment:

*Understanding Symptoms:** If you or your child experience difficulties with attention span, organisation, impulsivity, or hyperactivity, an assessment can help determine if these are indicative of ADHD.

*Access to Support:** A formal diagnosis is essential for accessing support services, including educational accommodations and therapies tailored to managing ADHD symptoms effectively.

*Guidance and Resources:** An assessment can guide the development of strategies and interventions to improve daily functioning, academic performance, and overall well-being.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition characterised by differences in social interactions, communication, and behaviour. Individuals with ASD may exhibit repetitive behaviours and have sensory sensitivities. The spectrum nature of ASD means that symptoms and their severity can vary widely from person to person.

During the assessment the psychologist aims to explore a child’s behaviour, developmental history, and mental health over 3-5 sessions that include clinical interviews and the completion of rating scales by parents, teachers, and/or the child depending on their age.

An ASD assessment can provide valuable insights and clarity for individuals or their families. Here are some reasons to consider an assessment:

*Understanding Symptoms:** If you or your child are experiencing challenges with social interactions, communication, repetitive behaviours, or sensory sensitivities, an assessment can help identify if these are related to ASD.

*Access to Support:** A formal diagnosis can be crucial for accessing support services, including funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for ongoing interventions and support.

*Guidance and Resources:** An assessment can provide a roadmap for accessing appropriate interventions, therapies, and educational resources tailored to individual needs.

  • A cognitive assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to measure various aspects of an individual's cognitive functioning. These assessments evaluate skills such as verbal comprehension, visuospatial skills, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. They provide insights into an individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, aiding in the understanding of their intellectual abilities and guiding appropriate interventions.

A cognitive assessment can provide valuable insights and clarity for individuals or their families. Here are some reasons to consider an assessment:

*Understanding Cognitive Functioning:** If your child is experiencing difficulties with memory, attention, problem-solving, processing information or other cognitive functions, an assessment can help identify specific areas of strength and weakness.

*Access to Support:** A formal evaluation can be crucial for accessing support services, including educational accommodations and interventions tailored to individual needs.

*Guidance and Resources:** An assessment can provide a roadmap for accessing appropriate interventions, therapies, and educational resources tailored to individual cognitive profiles.

  • An educational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to identify learning disorders and difficulties that may impact a student's academic performance. These assessments evaluate various cognitive and academic skills, including reading, writing, mathematics, and executive functions, to provide insights into an individual's learning strengths and challenges.

An educational assessment can provide valuable insights and clarity for students and their families. Here are some reasons to consider an assessment:

*Understanding Learning Challenges:** If you or your child are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, mathematics, or other academic areas, an assessment can help identify specific learning disorders or difficulties.

*Access to Support:** A formal diagnosis can be crucial for accessing support services, including educational accommodations and specialised interventions tailored to individual needs.

*Guidance and Resources:** An assessment can provide a roadmap for accessing appropriate interventions, therapies, and educational resources tailored to individual learning profiles.

Consider seeking an educational assessment if you notice any of the following symptoms:

*Difficulty in Reading:** Challenges with decoding words, reading fluency, or reading comprehension.

*Writing Difficulties:** Problems with spelling, grammar, organising thoughts in writing, or handwriting.

*Mathematics Challenges:** Trouble understanding math concepts, solving math problems, or performing calculations.

*Executive Functioning Issues:** Difficulty with planning, organising, managing time, or paying attention.

*Overall Academic Performance:** Struggling to keep up with peers in school or consistently low grades despite effort.
