Frequently Asked Questions
-
Counselling sessions provide a safe, confidential space to talk through your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Your psychologist will help you understand patterns, build coping strategies, and set meaningful goals.
-
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people benefit from just a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support. Your psychologist will discuss a plan that fits your needs.
If you’re coming in with a mental health care plan, you’re usually given six sessions from your GP, so this is a good number to have in mind. If you’ve used your six sessions and feel you’d benefit from more, you can go back to the GP for a review of your MHCP and receive another four.
We recommend coming for at least three sessions before deciding if therapy is right for you.
-
Yes. Everything you share in counselling is confidential, with only a few legal exceptions (like risk of harm). Your privacy and trust are deeply respected.
-
Our psychologists use a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and more, depending on your unique needs.
-
Psychologists have university qualifications and are registered with AHPRA. They can diagnose mental health conditions and use evidence-based therapies. Counsellors may not have the same level of training or regulation.
